Frankmusik's "Far From Over" (EP)

One of UK's finest male artists has finally made his triumphant return to the music scene after a brief stint in the U.S. where he signed with Cherrytree Records, home of Natalia Kills and Far East Movement. Frankmusik, electropop music extraordinaire, is sharing his new EP, Far From Over, for FREE and every song on the four-track project is worth your time and attention. Released last night, the EP shows the unique and creative artist going back to his roots of making pop music with real meaning and emotion. After the disappointing reception of his sophomore album, Do It In the AM, an effort Frankmusik was not even 100 percent supportive of, the artist made it his mission to return to making music that truly inspired him. He was no longer trying to chase a hit or crash land on top of the charts, even though I'm sure he would not mind the accomplishment.

Far From Over, a project six weeks in the making, is one that Top 40 radio would not be able to handle. Instead of generic, repetitive, forgetful pop, Frankmusik is carefully crafting music that would evoke some emotion from the listener, get them to actually feel what he was feeling in the recording and writing process. "Captain", with its heartbeat intro, describes a love stranded in the middle of nowhere, carefully avoiding the "rocks" that could break it apart easily. The relationship is not moving forward, just stuck in the same spot. The artist sings that someone needs to navigate, but neither really step up to the plate. The track is absolutely beautiful, even with its somber message, sounds as if it is ripped straight from his journal, and carries production upbeat enough to keep any listener entertained.

"Thank You", which bares some similarities to an Ellie Goulding track, is a backhanded compliment, thanking his lover for leaving him heartbroken and wounded. However, the rejection has left the artist stronger and wiser, you won't see him in the corner crying. "Am I sad? Yes my dear", the singer admits but he keeps his head up, saying if the two were really soul mates, then they would meet again someday down the road. Frankmusik's impressive vocals make this song a true smash, one that would resonate with anyone trying to get over a tough breakup.

What I am assuming is the "lead single" off the EP, "Map" is a soft, slow mid-tempo ballad that really shows off Frankmusik's soothing vocals. The electronic production is a good balance for the vocal delivery as the artist sings about the relationship that went south. He seems to always go back to the one who let him go, so he has finally decided to completely erase her off his map, never intending to return. The song is incredible in my eyes because the vibe allows the listener to think the song will be a love story, but the lyrics tell a completely different side of the relationship. Can this song find a huge audience please?

The last new song from Frankmusik is "The Line". The pace of the track is the slowest compared to the rest of the EP, production and beats are scaled back and the artist's voice does all the hard work. "You can steal the upper hands, and extort my master plans", the singer says, but he has apparently had enough. The spoken word portion of the song allows some emotion to seep through. As a listener, we have the unfortunate chance to witness a love fall apart. The track may be the longest of his new material, but I did not want it to end. The song is heartfelt, real and very well written. Cannot wait to see what his next full album is like.

I personally loved some of the songs found on Frankmusik's Do It In the AM, see "Wrecking Ball" and "No Champagne", but he was right when he said he was making music that was uninspiring. While they did feature catchy production and Top 40 ready beats, they lost true meaning. For this new extended play, the artist is able to show his fans the person he is, the events that inspire him, the new sounds that have influenced his new music and it is a collection of songs I have been waiting for. The artist has a way with words and his voice is able to convey the mood and overall somber feeling of the lyrics. If I were to give Far From Over a grade, it would easily secure an A rating. Spectacular work from an artist who deserves the recognition that has been avoiding him recently.
