Garlic In Milk Cures Asthma, Cardiac Problems, Insomnia, Arthritis, Cough, And Many Other Diseases

Grandmothers and mothers always have magic ingredients hidden in their kitchens; and mind you, they have one for every problem that you can come up with. Whenever I bruised myself, my mother used to sprinkle some turmeric on my bruise as if I were some curry she was preparing. Like millions of such ingredients, garlic is one that is, most probably, one of the most beneficial ones. It has in it the grace of nature, and it packs inside its pods multitudes of therapeutic qualities. If you want garlic to bestow some of its medicinal qualities to treat your illnesses, here’s a recipe for a health tonic that you can prepare with these little stinking roses.

What You Need To Do

  • Separate and peel 10 garlic pods.
  • Finely chop them or mince them and preferably leave them aside for some time.
  • Boil 500 ml of milk and add the finely chopped or minced garlic to it. Allow the milk to boil.
  • Strain the garlic from the milk.
  • Add a little sugar or stevia and relish the milk.

While you enjoy your steaming glass of garlic-infused milk, go ahead and read the health benefits of consuming this potion.

1. Cough

Cold and cough were my worst enemies in childhood. I’m sure a lot of you can relate to this. My recipe for instant relief was always garlic milk. This was when I guess the real fascination for garlic had begun. It is suggested that the garlic pods should be left aside for a while after mincing because this activates the enzyme called alliinase in the garlic, which turns out to be the magician warding off the cough here (1). So, before you add it to the milk, wait for the enzymes to be activated. If you don’t mind just munching them away – even better.

2. Pneumonia

People with pneumonia can consume this milk, for, garlic has the caliber to reduce body temperature within two days. Also, you could apply the juice of garlic cloves topically on the chest to help with breathlessness and other respiratory problems. Note that it might cause some redness on the skin when applied externally, but there is nothing to worry about. Garlic has this property to increase blood circulation and tends to produce redness, and yes, this property has a fancy name – rubefacient (2). That is, if you want to sound nerdy!

3. Asthma

In the case of people combatting asthma, the major concern is the constricted air passages in the lungs. These air passages get narrower when there is an entry of dust particles or allergens. Garlic helps in opening up these airways and reduces histamine production that causes inflammation (3). Also, the warm milk creates a soothing effect, and when coupled with garlic, reduces inflammation rapidly.

4. Cardiac Problems

It is said that garlic is more potent than aspirin in dissolving blood clots. In one of the experiments conducted on cholesterol-fed rabbits, it was found that garlic intake significantly reduced bad cholesterol (4). If there are fat deposits blocking your arteries, garlic easily removes the plaque, and by doing so, it considerably reduces the risk of any heart-related problem. Drink garlic milk if you are prone to blood clots or as a preventive measure to reduce cardiac risks.

5. Insomnia

When it comes to sleeping or stimulation, garlic and its effects seem very paradoxical. It is the amount that makes the difference. When garlic is consumed in the right amount, it relaxes and promises uninterrupted sleep. Also, by drying the nasal passages sufficiently, it can stop your snoring. People who can’t sleep because their partners snore, this is for you. Make your partner drink this. It will not only make them sleep better, but when they finally stop snoring, you could enjoy a slumber too. Be careful not to drink too much of this though, for, garlic is super famous for its stimulating and aphrodisiac properties (5).

6. Tuberculosis

We all know the trouble that garlic breath causes. This breath is primarily because of some sulphuric compounds present in the garlic. This is also present in the brothers and sisters of garlic since they all belong to the same family. Remember the odor of onion? Yes, pretty much the same reason. However, these very sulfuric compounds are antibacterial and help in removing harmful bacteria that cause tuberculosis (6). The breath might be an issue, but its rewards are unparalleled.

7. Arthritis

If you are tired of chronic joint pains, try drinking garlic milk because garlic has anti-inflammatory properties. The sulfuric compounds present in garlic are the major components that contribute to reducing pain (7). Additionally, garlic influences the action of other drugs. If you are already taking medicines for arthritis, garlic will help break this medicine efficiently in the liver and hasten the drug action. Garlic, both directly and indirectly, relieves arthritic pain. Try this for a natural way of relieving the pain.

Garlic neither looks beautiful nor does it smell aromatic. These pods are, in fact, made to take the corner seat in the kitchen and are ostracized from the rest of the groceries in the fear that everything might end up smelling of garlic. If you stop by that corner and think about the various health benefits it provides, you can never think of this ingredient as just some condiment that tantalizes your taste buds again. Garlic milk is my must-have on those sleepless winter nights. Do give it a try and comment below to tell me how this savior ingredient helped you.
